Medication Administration Awareness
DSPs in Arkansas supportive living settings frequently assist with medications. CES standards permit health maintenance activities — but a foundational medication awareness course (not administration certification) is needed to bridge the knowledge gap. This course covers the 6 Rights of medication assistance, common medication classes, adverse reaction recognition, and documentation. Note: This course does not replace medication administration certification. **What you will learn:** • Understand the 6 Rights of medication assistance: person, drug, dose, route, time, documentation • Identify classes of common medications used by individuals with IDD • Recognize adverse reactions and medication errors • Document medication assistance correctly in daily notes • Understand when to escalate to a nurse or supervisor
